Every breath a prayer

I am a mother.

All I do is pray.

I pray that my children will grow up to be healthy and strong. I pray that life handles them with tenderness. I pray that the beauty of the natural world is preserved for them to enjoy. I pray that the air they breathe be clean. I pray that they see, know, love, and understand the beauty and complexity of this blue speck. I pray that they see the world thrive in full splendor. I pray that they have clean water to drink. I pray that they will never know the pain of losing friends to war. I pray that they will know, sustain, and dwell in peace. I pray that they will have healthy food to eat. I pray that the pace of life will slow before it devours us. I pray that greed will someday surrender to hope. I pray that peace will come to be the chosen currency. I pray that love will sustain us. I pray that every person will have the chance to know and dwell in peace. I pray with every breath for life. I pray with every breath for peace.

Maybe only a mother knows. A mother knows what it means to exist in awe of life. A mother knows the privilege of observing your own heart living beyond your body. A mother knows what it is like to live a tangible distance from miracles. To know and love children is to know and understand the potential for peace.

I am a mother.

All I do is pray.
