Modern Parental Life

Vaccines

I have complicated feelings about vaccines.

Of course I value herd immunity, and the eradication of disease. I’m not an idiot, I’m a scientist, and, as a scientist, I’m left with questions. The following is a brief synopsis of my thinking on the subject, as a lay person and as a mother. I am not a doctor, I am not an expert. These are just my thoughts, based mostly on anecdotes, instincts, and a hint of scientific knowledge.

I don’t think enough is known about the brain to assert, with any degree of certainly, that the consequences of vaccines do not affect the brain. There are chemicals in vaccines that are designed to reduce the barrier between the spinal column and the blood stream, if these foreign bodies are allowed to enter the body and quickly disperse, and the person who has been given the vaccine has a reaction, say their body responds with a fever, that is inflamation, and when you have inflamation in the body, you have a body that is at war with itself, and it may not quite understand why.

When there is inflamation in the body, there can be inflamation of the brain, and when it comes to the early development of infants, we should err on the side of caution, and be careful about scheduling.

One common practice that alarms me is the, seemingly, standard practice of administering vaccinations in the hospital, before the child has had even a moment to become familiarized with the sights, sounds, smells, and energy of their home. It seems to me, that it is pathogenically irresponsible to trigger an immune response in an hours old infant who has yet to understand that he is safe here. It seems to me that the responsible thing would be to wait.

My choice has been to space out our vaccines under the supervision of our doctor.
