Good health and the tools necessary to maintain it is a fundamental human right. Our family is being nickel and dimed into the ground by healthcare costs. In January alone our copays for standard medical care for our children were over $300, and we are lucky enough to be HEALTHY! These were visits for small things like flu, strep, and “heart pain”. Add in the cost of cough medicine, and an e.r. visit for a few stitches, and we’re on track to break $1,000 in medical costs. All of that in addition to the $1,000+ we pay to be covered by insurance. I can’t imagine the burden being placed on families who are facing serious medical issues. Inflated medical costs are morally corrupt and we need to put a stop to it. People should not be forced to choose between paying their medical bills and buying food for their family. We cannot call ourselves a civilized society until we correct course, put our collective foot down, and say that access to good health is a fundamental human right.
