Albedo

Albedo is a scientific concept that always resonated with me. It means, “the rate of reflectivity”, in other words, the amount of light that is bounced back. White has the highest albedo, which is why the glaciers (being of light pigment) are so critical in the process of deflecting the energy of the sun. The glaciers are retreating, but we can increase our albedo by turning the black surfaces white. In fact, all colors have a higher rate of albedo than black, so I say, paint the streets with light. Get your care bear stare on. Children of the 80’s will appreciate the reference. 😉
