Abundantly accessible by bicycle, this would be a new twist on an old favorite, The Shopping Mall. The idea being that we convert stores in the mall into workshops; woodworking, clay, stained glass, furniture repair, imagination labs, makeup, flowers, electrical projects, small engine repair, bicycles, etc., anything you can imagine. You might work on a project, you may observe others working, or you may just hang out. There will be a zero waste cafe for medicinal tea, the food court will serve healthy food, grown in abundant local gardens, there will be great music, and dancing.
The flagship store would serve similarly to a traditional department store, but the goods would be primarily second hand. In the children’s department the kids would be empowered to choose staple wardrobe pieces for themselves, with the assistance of a list of suggested items. For instance, a winter wardrobe may consist of; hat, gloves, jacket, snow pants, three pairs of pants, four shirts, one pair of sneakers, one pair of boots, 8 pairs of socks, 8 pairs of underwear, and 8 free choice items. If we aim to employ a modern western model then we simply charge parents a flat fee for the service, but really my hope is that all of it will be free. There will be older kids who serve as “stylists”, and a lounge where parents can hang out. Also for sale in the flagship store would be the work produced within the mall.
